The Pied Shag Colony at the Panmure Basin
The Panmure Basin and Tamaki Estuary are home to a variety of wildlife, including the Pied Shag Phalacrocorax varius.
For many years these birds have struggled due to fishing, jet bikes, boats and nets, this is why Pam started caring for the colony. Today these birds not only have these threats to deal with, they now also have pollution and overfishing due to increased population.
Every night, seven days a week, 365 days a year, the colony was fed by Pam, and they are still fed to this day by the sanctuary to ensure their survival.
